Rice farming
“A Mwea farmer should be able to plant with confidence, access enough water, protect the crop, transport the harvest easily and sell it at a fair price.”
Rice farming is the backbone of Mwea's economy. When our farmers succeed, our entire constituency benefits.

Reliable irrigation water
Lobby the national government to strengthen and expand water for the Mwea Irrigation Scheme, including measures to increase and stabilise supply from Thiba Dam and other sources, so every farmer has reliable and fair access to water.
Protecting the market for Mwea rice
Use Parliament to push for policies that protect Mwea farmers from unfair competition from rice imports, a proper review of the relevant policies, and stronger enforcement against practices that disadvantage local rice.
Better farm-to-market roads
Work with the National Irrigation Authority and other agencies to rehabilitate and maintain on-farm and feeder roads. A farmer should not grow a good harvest only to struggle to get it to market.
A lasting solution to the snail menace
Advocate for research, technical support and an effective, affordable and environmentally responsible control programme with agricultural experts, research institutions and government agencies.

Every child in Mwea should have a fair chance to learn, whatever their background. No child left behind because of financial hardship, poor facilities or lack of opportunity.

Water is life, for our homes, our schools and our paddies. Through the Foundation, Bernard has already delivered water projects at Kandongu Primary School and in Mugaa.

Solar lights and security
